Briefing from Waseda University (早稲田大学), Japan (7.11.2009)

On 7 November 2009, 4 Lower 6th students attended a briefing from Waseda University (早稲田大学) Japan, which was held at the PTE Katok. Professor Masakaru Iino from the School of International Liberal Arts briefed the students on the courses offered at the university, including English taught courses.

Imperial College Briefing (8.10.2009)

On 8 October 2009, three L-6 students attended a briefing conducted by a representative from Imperial College London @ Maktab Duli PMAMB. The students were briefied on the courses offered, as well as facilities and student life at the university.

Study in Oxford University for Potential Students of "Sultan's Scholar" (28-29 September 2009)

21 U6 and L6 students attended the Study in Oxford University workshop on 218-29 September 2009, organised by the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation. During the 2-day workshop, students were briefed on Oxford university application and preparations such as personal statement writing and interview skills.

UCAS 2010 Briefing (09.09.09)

On 9th September 2009, UCAS 2010 was held at the ICT lab from 9.09am. The 1-hour long briefing provided information on the application process for U6 students who are interested in pursuing degrees at British universities.

Visit to Education UK Exhibition (25.8.2009)

On 25 August 2009, several U6 students visited the Education UK Exhibition @ Rizqun Hotel, The Mall Gadong, to get information on higher education options available overseas. Some of the scholarship recipients were also at the exhbition to seek further pre-departure information.

SMSO's Pride - Sia Yee Jien

Yee Jien joined SMSO from her former school, Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School. She has recieved the MoE Scholarship to continue her A Level studies at Godolphin School, Salisbury, UK (founded in 1726). After her completeion of A Level studies, she plans to study English Literature at the university.

Her secret to the current achievement is effective time management - dividing time wisely between studies and leisure.

She is looking forward to expriencing a different lifestyle in the UK and meet new friends from different cultural backgrounds.

Nadhirah joined her A Levels at SMSO, from Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School since March 2009.

She has received the MoE Scholarship to continue her A Levels at The Cheltenham Ladies' College, UK (founded in 1854) from September 2009. She plans to read Biology at the university.

She has no 'secrets' to reach the current achievement, and is thankful to have supporting friends through her ups and downs.

Mee Lin has joined A Levels at SMSO since March 2009. She was awarded the top student from her former school, Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School.

She will continue her A Levels at Oswestry School (founded in 1407 AD), UK from September 2009, under the DANA Scholarship. She plans to pursue a Bachelor degree in Biomedical Science or Chemical Engineering at university.

She is looking forward to a new start and to be independent. However, she will miss the festive celebrations with her family and friends in Brunei, especially during Chinese New Year and Hari Raya.

Rafidah will be pursuing Archaeology with Forensic Science at the University of Exeter, UK. She took A Levels Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at SMSO. She will miss her family and friends as well as food in Brunei but is looking forward to meeting new people at the university.

Under DANA Scholarship Scheme, Aswandi will be pursuing BSc Chemistry with Analytical Chemistry at Loughborough University in the UK from September 2009. At SMSO, he took GCE 'A' Levels in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and 'AS' Level in General Paper, and achieved outstanding results. He is looking foward to experiencing the new living environment in the UK and will definitely miss his family and speaking the local lingua in Brunei.

On 15 August 2009, a thanksgiving lunch was held for scholarship recipients who are going to the UK this coming September. This was also an opportunity for them to meet their seniors who are currently studying in the UK.

GCE O, AS & A Level Results SMS Registration


For students who are eager to obtain their GCE 'O', 'AS' and 'A' Levels June results via SMS, please click here. Please note that there will be $3 charge per result.
Otherwise, the students could wait and obtain the results free of charge from the SMSO Examination Department, once the results are released.

On Saturday 8 August 2009, 10 of our scholarship recipients from SMSO attended the Majlis Ramah Mesra & Doa Kesyukuran (Get together & Thanksgiving Prayer Ceremony) at the Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club in Jerudong.

MINDEF Scholarship Roadshow @ SMSO

This morning the Ministry of Denfence (MINDEF) Scholarship Roadshow was held at the Conference Room @ SMSO. The 11 newly recruited MINDEF Scholars gave an in depth information on the scholarship application process as well as shared their experiences in achieving excellent academic results, to 18 of our U6 students.
