Bon Voyage to LeeVoi, Nawawi and Aditia

This evening (Picture above, from left) Lee Leevoi, Mohd Nawawi Bolhassan and Aditia Salalu left for the UK this evening. Leevoi is doing Mechatronics and Robotics Systems at the University of Liverpool. Nawawi and Aditia will be doing Social Psychology and Mathematics respevtively, at the University of Kent.

Bon Voyage to Antika, Azree and Nazmi

Mohammad Nazmi Hj Ismail, Antika Lim and Azree Ainul Hafiz Hj Yunos (below - from left) left for the UK this evening. Nazmi abd Antika will be doing Environmental Planning and Management at University of Bangor, Wales, while Azree will be doing Geology at the University of Liverpool.

Bon Voyage Nurthaqifah, Aminuddin, Azrin and Azim

This evening Nurthaqifah Salihah Hj Mohd Salleh, Aminuddin Norhani, Azrin Alus and Ak Abdul Azim Pg Abas were all leaving for the UK for their further studies.

Nurthaqifah will be doing Chemistry with Analytical & Forensic Science at the University of East Anglia.

Aminuddin will be doing Radiography Diagonistic & Imaging at Cardiff University.

Bon Voyage Nuramaliah, Viviyanti and Hafiz

This evening Nuramaliah Hj Jamaluddin, Ching Viviyanti and Abdul Hafiz Abdul Kani have left for the UK for further studies.

Flight Connections at London Heathrow Airport - BMI (BD) flights

Some students will travel on RBA to London Heathrow Airport (LHR), and transit to other UK domestic airports. It will be stated in your air ticket. If the ticket only states to London (LHR) only, the followings will NOT apply.

- When you check in for your flight at Brunei International Airport, please inform the check in counter staff that you want to check through your luggage and collect it at the final destination, such as Leeds (LBA), Glasgow (GLA), Manchester (MAN) etc. Please double check the luggage tags (the white sticker-like tags that will be attached to your luggage)


- RBA flight arrives at Terminal 3 at London Heathrow.

- The domestic BMI (BD) flight departs from Terminal 1 at London Heathrow.

- As soon as you leave the aircraft, follow the "Flight Connections" sign to Terminal 1.


- A dedicated bus will take you to Terminal 1 . It is free and departs every 6 minutes.

- Your picture will be taken.

- Pass your hand luggage through X ray and security screening

- Visit your BMI airline desk for your boarding pass

- Go through passport control/immigration

- Relax in departure lounge and wait for your next flight.

Blogs from other 6th Form Career Centres

A very informative link for 6th Form students is the blog created by Mrs Imelda Yapp, Head of Career Department from SM Sayyidina Ali, Kuala Belait. The Life After SMSA for KBians provides excellent tips and guides on applications to local and overseas universities, how to choose the right career and many more.

Another useful blog is from the Higher Education Unit of Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, headed by Cg Nur Adyani Hj Yusop. It provides updated information on activities and programmes organised by the unit.

Both blogs are written by teams of experienced career teachers, who are very committed to the welfare of students in areas of career guidance and higher education, as well as offering another perspectives on career guidance.

SMSOnians featured in Borneo Bulletin (2 September 2008)

2 of our SMSO alumni, Azrin Alus (back row: 6th from left) and Azree Ainul Hafiz Hj Yunos (middle row: 6th from left) attended the BSP contract signing and farewell ceremony, held at BSP head office on Friday 29 August 2008.


Both students are under BSP scholarships, and will be pursuing Bachelor degree in Geology at University of Leeds and University of Liverpool respectively.

The ceremony was featured in an article on Borneo Bulletin on Tuesday, 2 September 2008.

Syllabi can be obtained from the website of University of Cambridge International Examinations

Note:
Students who have scored at least Credit in 'O' Level English Language will take General Paper at 6th Form

Students who have not achieved Credit in 'O' Level English will do 'O' Level English at 6th Form, until they get a credit in the public examination.

Syariah can be taken with Malay Language or Art for those who have scored at least B3 in Pengetahuan Ugama Islam and Malay Language at 'O' Levels, and credit in PMB Arabic Language.

Combined Science students should score Distinction Grade A2 at 'O' Levels to be allowed to take related Pure Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics).

Double Science students should score at least Grade B3 at 'O' Levels to be allowed to take related Pure Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics).

- Grade A in at least 7 'O' Level subjects
- All above requirement must be in ONE sitting

Scholarship (DANA)
- Brunei Citizen
- Distinction A2 in 'O' Level Bahasa Melayu and English Language
- At least 8 credit 'O' Levels in ONE sitting
- Dinstinction in best 5 'O' Level subjects, excluding Bahasa Melayu
- Aggregate in best 6 'O' Level subjects must be 8 or less
- Active involvement in extra curricular activities (ECAs)

Scholarship (Ministry of Education)
- Brunei Citizen
- Credit C5 in 'O' Level Bahasa Melayu
- Credit B4 in 'O' Level English Language
- At least 8 credit 'O' Levels in ONE sitting
- Dinstinction in best 5 'O' Level subjects, excluding Bahasa Melayu
- Aggregate in best 6 'O' Level subjects must be 12 or less
(Career: Education Officer)

Scholarship (Ministry of Education - Study at JIS)
- Brunei Citizen

"Entry to 6th Form" Session for Form 5 (3 September 2008)

Students from Form 5 Science and 5A1 classes attended an information session on "Entry to 6th Form". The objective is to provide students information on the entry requirement into 6th Form, scholarships offered by BAS and DANA, and the A Level subjects offered at SMSO.
